![]() The Mental Health Association of the District of Columbia is dedicated to promoting mental health within the District of Columbia through advocacy, education, research and the provision of comprehensive and quality services. MHA-DC’s goal is to reach populations that are traditionally underserved in communities—the elderly; the disabled; African Americans; Hispanics and other immigrants; adolescents, particularly those involved with the criminal justice system; and people infected with HIV/AIDS. We are committed to working with the DC Department of Mental Health to reach out to these populations to educate families and communities. Our MissionOur mission is to build, strengthen, and support an actively engaged body of citizen advocates who maintain high level involvement and visibility in promoting and advancing the achievement and maintenance of mental health for all the citizens of the District of Columbia. We collaborate with others to help prevent mental illness; to increase citizen participation and increase their influence, and effectiveness in the struggle to improve the care and treatment of persons with mental illness. Additionally, we advocate locally for the creation of appropriate public policies and programs that are responsive to the mental health needs of the District of Columbia.
